Save the Elephants - 4.5" x 9"

$150.00

This animal statuette was created as part of my 30 artworks in 30 days challenge where I focused on creating a series of endangered species. To create this piece, I papier-mâchéd print-outs of tiny 100 dollar bills all over the elephant, and then painted the elephant’s tusks and splatter painted its body with gold metallic acrylic paint. This elephant is made of money and gold to represent how the poachers see him. The Asian and African Elephant are both at risk as they continue to be killed for their ivory tusks, each sellable for between $75,000 and $150,000 depending on its weight. This ivory is used for things like piano keys, billiards balls, and even art. Most of the elephants that have their tusks removed and stolen by hunters die. You can learn more about this topic and this art series by checking out my Endangered Species portfolio.
